UFC 97 Predictions

For their return to Montreal, the UFC have put together a stacked card that is guaranteed to delight any MMA fan. Both the main event and undercard are filled with exciting matchups that will shake up at least a couple divisions when the dust settles on UFC 97.

Krzysztof Soszynski vs. Brian Stann

This fight is the only matchup on the main card that seems out of place. With a wealth of Canadian talent, like Jason MacDonald, David Loiseau, and Sam Stout fighting at this event, why they chose an unproven TUF alumnus to feature on the main card is just one of those mysteries only the UFC brass know the answer to.

Ulimate Fight Night: Condit vs. Kampmann Picks

Serving as a warmup to the latest season of The Ultimate Fighter, tonight’s fight card is a mediocre event that should at the very least remind Spike viewers that the idiots on the reality show do (for the most part) evolve into competent, respectful, semi-intelligent UFC fighters. As well, in the main event, Carlos Condit is making his long awaited debut in the UFC after tearing up the now defunct WEC welterweight division.

Junie Browning vs. Cole Miller
Anything involving Junie Browning seems to be rife with controversy and this fight, his 2nd in the UFC has already been deemed a ‘grudge match’ after Miller and Junie have traded insults in the press. They both have promised one-sided beatings but are more likely to deliver a back-and-forth battle of will.

Both fighters are well-rounded and skilled, but let’s face it neither are phenoms. Miller’s greatest strength is his BJJ game, as his long, tall frame allows him to pull off submissions when not in a tight guard. Browning on the other hand holds a distinct standup advantage over Miller. Browning has heavy hands, covers up well (unless throwing a fight) and has a puncher’s mentality when in the Octagon. Obviously Miller will want this fight to go to the ground and Browning to keep it standing.
